Moore was a Lt. Colonel in the Army and an aide to President Theodore Roosevelt. He boxed with TR in the White House and on one occasion inadvertently landed a punch to the President's eye that blinded him in that eye for the remainder of his life. TR kept this a closely guarded secret and Moore did not find out about it until twelve years after the fact.
